00:00.000 --> 00:04.000
Can you tell us about the current situation in Syria?

00:04.000 --> 00:08.000
Well, Syria is divided under different areas of control.

00:08.000 --> 00:12.000
The Syrian government is taking back the control of many areas.

00:12.000 --> 00:21.000
We can say that today around 65-70% of the Syrian ground is under the control of the Syrian government.

00:21.000 --> 00:27.000
I was there three weeks ago and I was reporting in different cities in Syria.

00:27.000 --> 00:30.000
I was covering the front in Yarmou, close to Damascus.

00:30.000 --> 00:37.000
I was covering the southern front on the border with Lebanon and not far from Julan and from Jordan.

00:37.000 --> 00:39.000
And I was in Palmyra and in Homs.

00:39.000 --> 00:44.000
And, well, I could find very different situations in each city.

00:44.000 --> 00:49.000
Palmyra is a city that has completely been abandoned by the population.

00:49.000 --> 00:56.000
It was just freed three weeks before my arrival and I was one of the first known, like,

00:56.000 --> 01:01.000
known Middle Eastern and known Syrian people going there.

01:01.000 --> 01:05.000
And, like, I could find a city in which there is no population anymore.

01:05.000 --> 01:09.000
And I could see how the terrorists, the Daesh terrorist organization,

01:09.000 --> 01:17.000
was destroying the city in order to break every link between the future and the past of it.

01:17.000 --> 01:23.000
Homs is a city that has not been controlled by Daesh organization by many other groups.

01:23.000 --> 01:26.000
There were around 15 groups of rebels controlling it.

01:26.000 --> 01:35.000
They were all radical groups and they were giving big problems, especially to the Christian community.

01:35.000 --> 01:42.000
I was able to visit and I could report about the story of the Christian community that was oppressed by those people.

01:42.000 --> 01:48.000
Even when, before the war, there was absolutely no problem between Muslims and Christians in Homs.

01:48.000 --> 01:59.000
And the great majority, the biggest part of the city has been destroyed, actually not by the terrorists, not by the rebels,

01:59.000 --> 02:07.000
but mostly by the bombing of the government that was freeing, that was liberating those areas from the control of those terrorists.

02:07.000 --> 02:15.000
While Damascus, in the city center there is absolutely no, absolutely the war cannot be seen,

02:15.000 --> 02:22.000
but we could hear from far away the noises of the clashes happening in the suburbs of the area.

02:22.000 --> 02:29.000
And it was incredible to see how people in the city center were going out, were partying, were really happy and free,

02:29.000 --> 02:35.000
even if in, like, just a few kilometers from us the clashes were taking place.
